Cool Things to Do If a Bully's Bugging You: 50 Classroom Activities to Help Elementary Students aims to help students facing bullying and other problems while they're actually experiencing them. The activities feature a multidisciplinary approach that encourages speaking, listening, reading, and writing activities to complement curricular goals in English/language arts and social studies. Principals, teachers and counselors will want to use this book in their bully prevention programs by involving children, parents, and the entire school family in their drive to create a bully-free school.
The book includes classroom activities and also involves parents in the learning process by having them discuss bullying issues with their children in a "Talk It Out" section that concludes each chapter. Research shows that involving the bullied child, the home, and the school community has proven the most successful approach to helping kids remain bully free. The bookalso includes kid-friendly quizzes to help reinforce the concepts covered in every chapter. Students and teachers alike will find the variety of activities in this book informative, kid-friendly, and best of all, enjoyable.

Reviews-
  • Rosemarie Kaupp, BSN, RN, school nurse and children's author, “THE AMBERELLA TALES” Book Series, www.rosemariekaupp.com As a school nurse and a children's author, I have high praise for Dr. Catherine DePino's book, Cool Things to Do If a Bully Is Bullying You. This book is about empowerment. It is about teaching children their self worth and teaching them strategies, through interactive classroom projects, to stand up for themselves and their peers in the face of bullying. Additionally, other projects support them in finding the words to seek help from peers, educators and parents. There are also home activities so parents can learn what the children are doing and how to assist them.

This book brings bullying out of the shadows. I see it as a valuable resource for any curriculum on the problem of bullying. Dr. DePino was able to write this excellent book because of her years of direct experience with children, parents and fellow educators.
  • Carl Lavo, frequent contributor to Naval History magazine and author of four books, “Back from the Deep, Slade Cutter”, “The Galloping Ghost” and “Pushing the Limits” for the Naval Institute Press, Annapolis; weekly columnist for Calkins Media, and... Is it enough to lecture students about how to deal with a bully? Not if you're childhood education expert Dr. Catherine DePino. She turns words into actions with an illustrious new book that gives kids real-life practice in what to do when being harassed. Cool Things to Do If a Bully's Bugging You: 50 Classroom Activities to Help Elementary Students empowers teachers, kids and parents with an easy-to-follow, fundamental means of dealing with bullying. Along the way, kids will create a superhero Bully Buster, write a bull-busting manual, make a silly bully picture booklet, find the right words to tell about bullying and many, many other techniques kids, teachers and parents can use.
